Data centres are the physical backbone of our digital world. They house the essential infrastructure that allows citizens, companies, and governments to connect and run everyday digital services, the internet, and artificial intelligence around the clock.
Google’s investment aims to make Muhos a hub of the circular economy by eliminating waste and recycling data centre materials and components. For example, we power local industries by capturing and recycling waste heat, showcasing a commitment to a future where nothing is wasted and the community benefits through reduced energy costs.

Google makes Finland’s largest-ever foreign investment and begins construction of the new data centre campus in Muhos.
2025
Google signs a land use agreement with Muhos municipality to develop off-site infrastructure.
2024
Google announces the acquisition of 2100 hectares of land in Muhos and Kajaani for potential future data centre development.
2009
Google opens our first data centre in Finland in the old Summa paper mill in Hamina.
We are planning our Muhos data centre using extensive research and ongoing dialogue with local communities and authorities. Site activity is currently limited to preliminary infrastructure development, and we’re preparing to transition into the next phase of construction. All work is proceeding in full compliance with obtained permits. This website will be updated with the latest updates on the project.
